Advisor - Black University

With a doctorate in Performance Studies from Northwestern University and extensive training in traditional, collaborative performance from the African Diaspora, Dr. Anna Beatrice Scott practices performance at the intersection of dance, digital devices and text, on stages, in blogs, books and through strategic marketing plans. She has presented her solo performance work in traditional and non-traditional spaces around the country including the Project Rowhouses in Houston, TX, The REDCAT in Los Angeles, MIT, Express Yourself Festival in Chicago's Grant Park, Bayview Opera House in San Francisco, streets around Los Angeles, as well as international sites that include the Slaghuset in Malmô, Sweden and Teatro Castro Alves in Salvador-Bahia, Brasil.

Her work engages everyday ingredients of banal life--not the objects, but the material we take for granted, like oil, paper, sugar. Dr. Scott is a trained ethnographer with over 25 years experience in the field collecting, analyzing, and performing cultural processes embedded in dance, music and storytelling. She utilizes an array of tools to code her findings, from analogue note cards to digital tools like SQL, Airtable and Tableau. The City of Long Beach, CA has commissioned Dr. Scott to develop civic art that addresses the confluence of municipal investments, water, housing. A curriculum specialist with the business consultancy bigStory, Dr. Scott currently serves as Assistant Professor of Speech & Theater at Rust College.
