Mestre Amen Santo is the Executive Director of Brasil Brasil Cultural Center and the founder and lead Master teacher of Capoeira Batuque, a world renowned Capoeira group. Born and raised in Salvador Bahia, Mestre Amen was exposed to Capoeira, Drumming and Afro-Brazilian Dance from a young age and began practicing Capoeira at the age of Seven in his neighborhood streets. Discovering his natural abilities for Capoeira, he quickly caught the eyes of major dance company directors who hired him to travel the world performing for their dance companies. In 1985, he was invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall in NYC and this was the beginning of his journey in the United States. In 1989, Mestre Amen moved to Los Angeles where, over the years, he founded Capoeira Batuque and formed Ballet Folclorico Do Brasil, an Afro Brazilian dance company. Mestre Amen also took on Hollywood and stared in films such as Only The Strong & Kickboxer 4. Additionally, he taught movement and Capoeira at UCLA’s theater and World Arts and Culture departments. In 2019, Mestre Amen celebrated 30 years of his work in Southern California.
